TOI-2842 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

TOI-2842 is a star located 1500 light-years away, with one known planet in orbit around it. The host star is estimated to be 4.7 billion years old, with a mass of 1.14 solar masses, a radius of 1.26 solar radii, and a temperature of 5910 K. Its reported mass, radius, and temperature are all larger or hotter than the Sun's corresponding values.

The single planet, TOI-2842 b, was discovered by the transit method in 2023. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, dimming the star's observed brightness; repeated dips help establish the planet's orbital period. TOI-2842 b completes one orbit in 3.55 days. It is classified as Jupiter-like, meaning its radius exceeds four times Earth's. Its radius is 12.8 Earth radii and its mass is 118 Earth masses, both larger than Earth's corresponding values. Its mean density is 0.306 g/cm³, which is 0.0555 times Earth's.
