TOI-251 b: A Neptune-like World Around a Star

TOI-251 is a star 325 light-years away with an age of 0.18 billion years, a mass of 1.04 solar masses, a radius of 0.881 solar radii, and a temperature of 5880 K. Its reported mass estimate is larger than the Sun's, while its reported radius estimate is smaller than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, TOI-251 b, is a Neptune-like world discovered by transit in 2021. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. TOI-251 b orbits every 4.94 days. Its radius is 2.74 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and within the Neptune-like size class, which extends to 4 times Earth's radius. Its mass is reported as an upper limit of 317.83 Earth masses.
