TOI-2459 b: A Neptune-like World Around a Cool Star

TOI-2459 is a star 119 light-years away with a single known planet, TOI-2459 b. The star has a mass of 0.66 solar masses, a radius of 0.675 solar radii, and a temperature of 4200 K. Its reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, its reported radius estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

TOI-2459 b was discovered by transit in 2023. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. The planet is Neptune-like, a size class that reaches four times Earth's radius. It orbits every 19.1 days and has a radius of 2.95 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's.
