TOI-2420 b: A Jupiter-Like World in a Distant System

TOI-2420 is a star located 1420 light-years away, with a mass of 1.02 solar masses, a radius of 2.2 solar radii, and a temperature of 5710 K. Its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, TOI-2420 b, was discovered in 2024 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is classified as Jupiter-like, a size class for planets exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. TOI-2420 b has a radius of 15 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and a mass of 295 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.479 g/cm³, 0.0869 times Earth's.

TOI-2420 b completes an orbit every 5.84 days, the time it takes to circle its star once.
