TOI-2379 b: A Giant World Around a Small Cool Star

TOI-2379 is a star 689 light-years from Earth with one known planet. The star is 10.4 billion years old and has a mass of 0.645 solar masses and a radius of 0.622 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's. Its temperature of 3710 K is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet TOI-2379 b was discovered by transit in 2024. During a transit, a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, dimming the star's light. TOI-2379 b orbits its star every 5.47 days and is a Jupiter-like planet, a class defined by a radius exceeding four times Earth's. Its radius of 11.7 Earth radii is larger than Earth's, while its mass of 1830 Earth masses is larger still and roughly 5.76 times Jupiter's mass. The planet's mean density is 6.26 g/cm³, 1.14 times Earth's.
