TOI-1722 b: A Jupiter-like World in a Distant System

TOI-1722 is a star 445 light-years away with a mass of 1.16 solar masses, a radius of 1.09 solar radii, and a temperature of 6140 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host: TOI-1722 b.

TOI-1722 b is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 4.38 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. It was discovered by transit, the method in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. TOI-1722 b completes one orbit every 9.61 days.
