TOI-1680 and Its Earth-Like Planet

TOI-1680 is an M-type red dwarf 121 light-years away. Its spectral type is given as M4.5+/-0.5, its mass is 0.18 solar masses, its radius is 0.211 solar radii, and its temperature is 3230 K. Its reported mass estimates it below the Sun, its reported radius likewise falls below the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this star, TOI-1680 b.

TOI-1680 b was found by transit and announced in 2023. It completes an orbit in 4.8 days, and its radius is 1.47 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's. That radius keeps it within 1.5 times Earth's radius, the range for an Earth-like size class. The transit method detects the small dip in brightness when the planet passes in front of its star, and repeated dips establish the orbital period.
