TOI-1516 b: A Giant World in a Close Orbit

TOI-1516 is an F8 V star located 806 light-years away. This star is larger and hotter than the Sun, with measurements of 1.14 solar masses, 1.14 solar radii, and a temperature of 6520 K. It is also older than the Sun at 4.82 billion years. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, TOI-1516 b, was discovered in 2022 using the transit method, during which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is classified as a Jupiter-like planet, meaning its radius exceeds four times that of Earth. Its measured radius is 15.2 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's. Its mass is 1000 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's, and roughly 3.16 times Jupiter's mass. The planet completes an orbit every 2.06 days. Its mean density is 1.56 g/cm³, which is 0.284 times Earth's density.
