TOI-1230: A Super-Earth in a Distant Star System

TOI-1230 is a star 467 light-years away, with a reported mass of 1.14 solar masses and a radius of 1.15 solar radii. Its reported temperature is 6080 K, hotter than the Sun's, and its radius estimate is larger than the Sun's. One known planet orbits this host.

That planet, TOI-1230.01, was discovered in 2021 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in observed brightness when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. TOI-1230.01 completes one orbit every 25.1 days. Its radius is 2.39 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and it is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class reaching 2.5 times Earth's radius.
