TIC 52059926: A Cool Dwarf and Its Giant Planet

TIC 52059926 is a K-type main-sequence star located 706 light-years away. It is an older star, with an age of 8.2 billion years, and it is orbited by one known planet. The star's reported mass and radius are both smaller than the Sun's, at 0.73 solar masses and 0.72 solar radii, and its temperature of 4510 K is cooler than the Sun's.

The single planet in this system is TIC 52059926 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by the transit method in 2026. A transit occurs when a planet crosses in front of its star from our viewpoint, briefly dimming the star's observed brightness; repeated dips help establish the planet's orbital period. That period is 176 days. The planet's radius is 10.7 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass estimate is 5380 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's and roughly 16.9 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 24.1 g/cm³, 4.38 times Earth's.
