PSR B1620-26 b: A Planet Orbiting a Pulsar

PSR B1620-26 is a pulsar, the small dense remnant of a massive star, with a reported mass estimate of 1.35 solar masses. That estimate is larger than the Sun's. One planet has been found around this host.

That planet is PSR B1620-26 b, discovered in 2003 by pulsar timing. Pulsar timing detects planets by measuring the clock-like radio pulses of a pulsar; tiny shifts in the pulse schedule reveal orbiting planets. The planet is circumbinary, meaning it orbits both stars of a binary star system rather than one star alone.

PSR B1620-26 b has a reported mass estimate of 795 Earth masses, larger than Earth's and roughly 2.5 times Jupiter's mass. No orbital period is reported for PSR B1620-26 b.
