NGTS-38 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

NGTS-38 is a star 876 light-years from Earth, with a mass of 1.46 solar masses, a radius of 1.88 solar radii, and a temperature of 6310 K. Its reported mass, radius, and temperature are all larger or hotter than the Sun's. The star is 2.2 billion years old. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is NGTS-38 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2026. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. NGTS-38 b has a mass of 1520 Earth masses, roughly 4.77 times Jupiter's mass, and a radius of 12.1 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 4.7 g/cm³, 0.852 times Earth's. It completes an orbit every 181 days.
