NGTS-24 b: A Jupiter-like Planet

NGTS-24 is a star of spectral type G2 IV located 2230 light-years away. Its mass is 1.26 solar masses, its radius is 1.64 solar radii, and its temperature is 5820 K. The star is 4.77 billion years old. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

One planet orbits this host: NGTS-24 b. It is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. The planet was discovered in 2022 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. Its radius is 13.6 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 165 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. It completes an orbit every 3.47 days. Its mean density is 0.361 g/cm³, 0.0656 times Earth's.
