LSPM J2116+0234: A Nearby Red Dwarf and Its Planet

LSPM J2116+0234 is an M3.0 V star, a small, cool red dwarf, located 57.5 light-years away. It hosts one planet, LSPM J2116+0234 b, discovered in 2019 by the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. Repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period.

The star's reported mass estimate is 0.43 solar masses, smaller than the Sun's, and its reported radius estimate is 0.431 solar radii, also smaller than the Sun's. Its temperature is 3480 K, cooler than the Sun's, and its age is 2 billion years.

LSPM J2116+0234 b has a minimum mass of 13.3 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass that differs from an ordinary mass estimate. Its minimum mass is larger than Earth's, and its orbital period is 14.4 days.
