LHS 3844 and Its Earth-Sized Planet

LHS 3844 is a red dwarf star of spectral type M4.5–M5.0 located 48.5 light-years away. It has a mass of 0.151 solar masses, a radius of 0.189 solar radii, and a temperature of 3080 K, making it smaller, smaller in radius, and cooler than the Sun. Its age is 7.8 billion years. One planet is known to orbit this star.

LHS 3844 b is an Earth-like planet discovered in 2019 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Its radius is 1.29 Earth radii, and its mass is 2.37 Earth masses, both larger than Earth's corresponding values. It completes an orbit in 0.463 days. Its mean density is 6.14 g/cm³, 1.11 times Earth's.
