Kepler-971 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-971 is a star 1100 light-years away with one known planet. The host star is 4.47 billion years old and has a mass of 0.88 solar masses and a radius of 0.85 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's corresponding values. Its temperature of 5430 K is cooler than the Sun's.

The single planet, Kepler-971 b, was discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet crosses in front of its star from our viewpoint, producing a small dip in brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-971 b completes an orbit every 9.59 days. Its radius of 2.13 Earth radii is larger than Earth's, placing it in the Super-Earth size class, which extends to 2.5 times Earth's radius.
