Kepler-957 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

Kepler-957 is a star 2690 light-years away with an age of 2.75 billion years. Its mass is 0.81 solar masses and its radius is 0.75 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's, while its temperature of 4960 K is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, Kepler-957 b, is classified as Jupiter-like, meaning its radius exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. It was discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-957 b has a radius of 5.5 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and an orbital period of 5.91 days.
