Kepler-953 and Its Two Planets

Kepler-953 is a star located 844 light-years away, and two planets have been found orbiting it. The star is 8.71 billion years old. Its mass is 0.95 solar masses, its radius is 0.99 solar radii, and its temperature is 5420 K. Its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

Both planets were discovered by the transit method in 2016, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods.

Kepler-953 b is a Jupiter-like planet with a radius of 4.21 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. It orbits once every 88.4 days, the longest year among the listed planets. Kepler-953 c is an Earth-like planet with a radius of 1.19 Earth radii, also larger than Earth's. It completes an orbit in 9.11 days, the shortest year among the listed planets. Of the two, Kepler-953 c has the smallest radius at 1.19 Earth radii, while Kepler-953 b has the largest at 4.21 Earth radii.

The star's reported mass is 0.95 solar masses, smaller than the Sun's.
