Kepler-786: A Cool Dwarf with a Super-Earth

Kepler-786 is a star located 1580 light-years away. It has a mass of 0.81 solar masses and a radius of 0.74 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's. Its temperature is 4840 K, cooler than the Sun's, and it is 2.51 billion years old. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is Kepler-786 b, a Super-Earth discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-786 b has a radius of 2.43 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and an orbital period of 53.5 days.
