Kepler-780 and Its Lone Known Planet

Kepler-780 is a star located 1,820 light-years away. It is 4.9 billion years old and has a mass of 1.01 solar masses, a radius of 1.02 solar radii, and a temperature of 5770 K. One planet has been found orbiting this star.

That planet is Kepler-780 b, a Sub-Earth discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet crosses in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-780 b completes one orbit in 0.677 days, and its radius is 0.89 Earth radii. That reported radius estimate is smaller than Earth's. Planet size classes compare radius with Earth's: a Sub-Earth is smaller than Earth.
