Kepler-766 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-766 is a star located 7490 light-years away. It has 1.1 solar masses and 1.15 solar radii, making it more massive and larger than the Sun. Its temperature is 5990 K, hotter than the Sun, and its age is 3.63 billion years. One planet is known to orbit this star.

That planet, Kepler-766 b, is Neptune-like, a size class that reaches 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 3.39 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. It was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods, and Kepler-766 b's orbital period is 6.1 days.
