Kepler-747 b: A Jupiter-Like World Around a Cool Dwarf Star

Kepler-747 is a star located 10900 light-years away, and it hosts one planet. The star is 4.79 billion years old, with a mass of 0.82 solar masses and a radius of 0.78 solar radii. Its temperature is 5100 K.

The planet Kepler-747 b was discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-747 b completes an orbit in 35.6 days. Its radius is 5.27 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's radius and places it in the Jupiter-like size class, since such planets exceed 4 Earth radii.

The star's reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's. Its reported radius estimate is smaller than the Sun's. The star's reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.
