Kepler-688 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

Kepler-688 is a star 4430 light-years away with one known planet. The star is 4.27 billion years old and has a mass of 0.98 solar masses, a radius of 0.96 solar radii, and a temperature of 5720 K. Its planet, Kepler-688 b, was discovered by transit in 2016, when it was observed passing in front of the star and dimming its brightness slightly.

Kepler-688 b is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class for planets larger than four times Earth's radius. Its radius of 9.76 Earth radii is larger than Earth's, and it completes an orbit every 3.9 days. A transit occurs when a planet crosses in front of its star from our viewpoint, and repeated dips in brightness reveal the orbital period.
