Kepler-556 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-556 is a star 2200 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The host star is 4.17 billion years old and has a mass of 1 solar masses and a radius of 0.98 solar radii, with a temperature of 5740 K. Its planet, Kepler-556 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness.

Kepler-556 b is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 2.24 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. The planet completes an orbit every 11.7 days.
