Kepler-522 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

Kepler-522 is a star located 2080 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is 1.7 billion years old, with a mass of 1.54 solar masses and a radius of 1.98 solar radii. Its temperature is 6390 K. Each of these values exceeds the corresponding solar figure: the star is more massive, larger, and hotter than the Sun.

The planet Kepler-522 b was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-522 b completes one orbit every 38.6 days and has a radius of 6.91 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. That radius places it among the Jupiter-like planets, a size class for worlds exceeding four times Earth's radius.
