Kepler-520: A Distant Star With Two Known Worlds

Kepler-520 is a star located 2030 light-years away, and two planets have been found orbiting it. The host is 2.04 billion years old, with a mass of 1.1 solar masses, a radius of 1.09 solar radii, and a temperature of 6110 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

Both planets were discovered by transit, the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet crosses in front of it, and both were reported in 2016. Kepler-520 b is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class reaching 2.5 times Earth's radius, and has a radius of 1.66 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its orbital period is 19.7 days, the longest year among the listed planets. Kepler-520 c is classified as Earth-like, a size class staying within 1.5 times Earth's radius, and has a radius of 1.07 Earth radii, larger than Earth's yet the smallest among the listed planets. Its orbital period is 5.21 days, the shortest year among the listed planets.
