Kepler-517 b: A Neptune-like World in a Distant Two-Star System

Kepler-517 is a star located 946 light-years from Earth, and it hosts one known planet. The star itself is estimated to be 6.31 billion years old, with a mass of 0.95 solar masses and a radius of 0.98 solar radii. Its temperature is 5690 K.

The planet orbiting this host is named Kepler-517 b. It was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-517 b is classified as Neptune-like, a size class that reaches 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 2.67 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. The planet completes one orbit, its year, in 60.9 days.
