Kepler-515 b: A Close-In World Around a Cool Star

Kepler-515 is a star with 0.9 solar masses, 0.83 solar radii, and a temperature of 5290 K, making it cooler, less massive, and smaller than the Sun. It is 3.39 billion years old. One known planet orbits this host.

That planet, Kepler-515 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet crosses in front of it. Kepler-515 b has an orbital period of 20 days, so it completes one orbit in 20 days. Its radius is 1.46 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's and places it within the Earth-like size class - a category covering planets up to 1.5 times Earth's radius.

The star's reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.
