Kepler-513 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-513 is a star 1530 light-years away with one known planet, Kepler-513 b, discovered by the transit method in 2016. The transit method detects a planet when it passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness, and repeated dips help establish its orbital period. The planet orbits every 28.9 days.

The host star is 5.5 billion years old and has a mass of 1.02 solar masses, a radius of 1.06 solar radii, and a temperature of 5850 K. That temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

Kepler-513 b is a Super-Earth with a radius of 2.2 Earth radii, a size estimate larger than Earth's. In the planet size classes used by astronomers, a Super-Earth reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius.
