Kepler-509 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-509 is a star located 1080 light-years away, with one planet known to orbit it. The host star is 4.27 billion years old and has a mass of 1.1 solar masses, a radius of 1.2 solar radii, and a temperature of 6060 K. Its mass and radius are both larger than the Sun's, and its temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The system's only known planet, Kepler-509 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-509 b is a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 2.49 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and it completes one orbit every 41.7 days.
