Kepler-500 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-500 is a star located 2630 light-years away. It has 1.02 solar masses and 1.03 solar radii, meaning its mass and radius are each close to the Sun's. Its temperature is 5810 K, and its age is 4.37 billion years. One planet has been found orbiting this host.

That planet is Kepler-500 b, a Neptune-like world discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-500 b completes an orbit every 8.51 days. Its radius is 2.58 Earth radii, an estimate larger than Earth's. Under the size classes used for planets, a Neptune-like planet reaches 4 times Earth's radius, and Kepler-500 b falls within that range while remaining well above Earth's size.
