Kepler-462 is a star located 1950 light-years away, and two planets have been found in orbit around it. The host star is estimated to be 0.5 billion years old, with a mass of 1.59 solar masses and a radius of 1.57 solar radii. Its temperature is 7500 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.
Both planets were detected by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-462 b was discovered in 2016. It is a Neptune-like planet with a radius of 3 Earth radii and a mass of 53.9 Earth masses. Its orbital period is 84.7 days. Its mean density is 11 g/cm³, 2 times Earth's. Among the listed planets, Kepler-462 b has the shortest year by reported estimates, the smallest radius, and the largest reported mass.
Kepler-462 c was discovered in 2018. It is a Jupiter-like planet with a radius of 4 Earth radii and a mass of 6 Earth masses. Its orbital period is 208 days. Its mean density is 0.517 g/cm³, 0.0938 times Earth's. Among the listed planets, Kepler-462 c has the longest year by reported estimates, the largest radius, and the smallest reported mass. The radii of both planets are larger than Earth's, as are their masses.
