Kepler-45: A Cool Red Dwarf and Its Close-Orbiting Giant

Kepler-45 is an M-type red dwarf located 1,250 light-years away, with a single planet known to orbit it. The star has an age of 0.5 billion years, a mass of 0.59 solar masses, and a radius of 0.55 solar radii, all smaller than the Sun's corresponding values, and its temperature of 3,820 K is cooler than the Sun's.

The system's only cataloged planet, Kepler-45 b, was discovered by the transit method in 2011. It is Jupiter-like, with a radius of 10.8 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and a mass of 160 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.71 g/cm³, 0.129 times Earth's. Orbiting every 2.46 days, Kepler-45 b circles its host in one of the shortest periods among the planets listed here.
