Kepler-438 and Its Earth-Sized Planet

Kepler-438 is a single star with one known planet, Kepler-438 b. The star is 4.4 billion years old and has a mass of 0.544 solar masses, a radius of 0.52 solar radii, and a temperature of 3750 K. Its mass and radius are both smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

Kepler-438 b was discovered in 2015 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is classified as Earth-like, meaning its radius stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius. It has a radius of 1.12 Earth radii and an orbital period of 35.2 days.
