Kepler-435 is a star 4630 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The host star is estimated to be 2.25 billion years old, with a mass of 1.54 solar masses, a radius of 3.21 solar radii, and a temperature of 6160 K. Its reported mass, radius, and temperature estimates are each larger or hotter than the Sun's.
The planet, Kepler-435 b, was discovered by the transit method and announced in 2015. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-435 b completes an orbit every 8.6 days.
Kepler-435 b is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class for objects exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 22.3 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass estimate is 267 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.132 g/cm³, 0.024 times Earth's.
