Kepler-258 is a star located 1880 light-years away, and it hosts two known planets. The star is 3.63 billion years old, with a mass of 0.82 solar masses, a radius of 0.77 solar radii, and a temperature of 4950 K, making it smaller, less massive, and cooler than the Sun.
The two planets, Kepler-258 b and Kepler-258 c, were both discovered in 2014 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-258 b is classified as Jupiter-like, with a radius of 4.06 Earth radii and an orbital period of 13.2 days. Kepler-258 c is classified as Neptune-like, with a radius of 3.61 Earth radii and an orbital period of 33.7 days. Among the listed planets, Kepler-258 b has the shortest year and the largest radius by reported estimates, while Kepler-258 c has the longest year and the smallest radius by reported estimates. Both planets' reported radius estimates are larger than Earth's.
