Kepler-1982 b: A Sub-Earth Planet in a Distant System

Kepler-1982 is a star located 1820 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is 2.63 billion years old and has a mass of 1.15 solar masses, a radius of 1.23 solar radii, and a temperature of 6250 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are both larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-1982 b, was discovered by the transit method in 2023. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness, and repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1982 b completes an orbit every 3.82 days. It is classified as a Sub-Earth, a size class for planets smaller than Earth, and its radius of 0.77 Earth radii is smaller than Earth's.
