Kepler-1875 b: A Distant Neptune-like World

Kepler-1875 is a star located 5420 light-years from Earth. It has a mass of 0.95 solar masses, a radius of 0.851 solar radii, and a temperature of 6150 K. The star is slightly less massive and slightly smaller than the Sun, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits Kepler-1875.

That planet, Kepler-1875 b, was discovered by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's observed brightness when a planet passes in front of it. Repeated dips help establish the planet's orbital period, which is 34.5 days. Kepler-1875 b completes one orbit around its star in 34.5 days.

Kepler-1875 b is classified as Neptune-like. Its radius is 3.23 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's. Size classes compare a planet's radius with Earth's: a Sub-Earth is smaller than Earth, an Earth-like planet stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius, a Super-Earth reaches 2.5 times, and a Neptune-like planet reaches 4 times Earth's radius. Kepler-1875 b fits within the Neptune-like range, placing it among planets whose radii reach but do not exceed four times that of Earth.
