Kepler-1854 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-1854 is a star 1380 light-years from Earth. It is 12.9 billion years old and has a mass of 0.766 solar masses, a radius of 1 solar radii, and a temperature of 4970 K. Its reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, Kepler-1854 b, was discovered by transit in 2021. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1854 b completes an orbit every 39.8 days. Its radius is 2.59 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's and places it among Neptune-like planets, whose radii reach 4 times Earth's.
