Kepler-1847 b: A Neptune-Like World in a Distant System

Kepler-1847 is a star located 5520 light-years from Earth. It has a mass of 1.04 solar masses, a radius of 0.964 solar radii, and a temperature of 6120 K, making it hotter than the Sun. One planet orbits this star.

That planet is Kepler-1847 b, a Neptune-like world discovered by the transit method in 2021. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1847 b completes one orbit every 11.1 days. Its radius is 2.75 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Under the size classification used for planets, a Neptune-like planet has a radius up to four times that of Earth.
