Kepler-1780: A Distant Star With One Known Planet

Kepler-1780 is a star 2580 light-years away. Its reported mass estimate is 0.93 solar masses, its reported radius estimate is 0.895 solar radii, and its reported temperature is 5390 K. Each of these estimates is smaller or cooler than the Sun's corresponding value. One planet is known to orbit this star.

That planet, Kepler-1780 b, was discovered in 2021 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1780 b completes an orbit every 109 days. Its radius is 3.61 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. That radius places it among the Neptune-like planets, a size class reaching up to four times Earth's radius.
