Kepler-1731 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-1731 is a single star located 554 light-years away. Its reported mass estimate is 0.808 solar masses, smaller than the Sun's, and its reported radius estimate is 0.689 solar radii, also smaller than the Sun's. The star's reported temperature is 4920 K, cooler than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, Kepler-1731 b, is a Neptune-like world discovered by transit in 2021. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1731 b orbits every 21.8 days, and its radius estimate is 2.93 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Size classes compare radius with Earth's, and a Neptune-like planet reaches 4 times Earth's radius.
