Kepler-1716: A Cool, Compact Star and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-1716 is a star 637 light-years away with one known planet, Kepler-1716 b. Its reported mass estimate is 0.779 solar masses, its radius estimate is 0.701 solar radii, and its temperature is 4810 K. Each of these reported values is smaller or cooler than the corresponding value for the Sun.

Kepler-1716 b is a Super-Earth discovered by transit in 2021. In this method, a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. The planet's radius estimate is 2.42 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its orbital period is 35.6 days. Super-Earth describes a planet whose radius reaches 2.5 times Earth's, so the size classification reflects radius rather than composition.
