Kepler-1702 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-1702 is a star 2800 light-years away with one known planet. The host star has a mass of 0.829 solar masses and a radius of 0.744 solar radii, meaning both its mass and radius are smaller than the Sun's. Its temperature is 5240 K, which is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet Kepler-1702 b is a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches up to 2.5 times Earth's radius. It was discovered in 2020 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods, and Kepler-1702 b completes one orbit every 18.5 days. Its radius is 1.6 Earth radii, larger than Earth's.
