Kepler-1640 and Its Planet

Kepler-1640 is a star 6070 light-years away with one known planet. The host star is 2.4 billion years old, has a mass of 1.27 solar masses, a radius of 1.43 solar radii, and a temperature of 6320 K. Its reported mass estimate, radius estimate, and temperature are all larger or hotter than the Sun's.

The only planet orbiting this star is Kepler-1640 b, discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness, and repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1640 b completes an orbit in 7.58 days. With a radius of 4.82 Earth radii, this Jupiter-like planet is larger than Earth; Jupiter-like planets exceed 4 times Earth's radius.
