Kepler-1617 and Its Lone Known Planet

Kepler-1617 is a single-star system 2930 light-years from Earth. Its star is 3.02 billion years old and has 1.15 solar masses, 1.22 solar radii, and a temperature of 6170 K, making it more massive, larger, and hotter than the Sun. The system has one known planet.

That planet, Kepler-1617 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1617 b is classified as Earth-like, meaning its radius stays within 1.5 times Earth's, and it orbits every 27.5 days. Its radius of 1.2 Earth radii is larger than Earth's.
