Kepler-1605 b: A Single Earth-Like World in a Distant System

Kepler-1605 is a star located 1780 light-years away, and it hosts exactly one known planet. The host star is estimated to be 4.68 billion years old, with a mass of 0.86 solar masses, a radius of 0.82 solar radii, and a temperature of 5280 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The lone planet, Kepler-1605 b, was discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness, and repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1605 b completes an orbit every 85.8 days. Its radius is 1.08 Earth radii, which places it in the Earth-like size class, since that class stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius.
