Kepler-1581 and Its Sub-Earth Planet

Kepler-1581 is a star 1610 light-years away with an age of 4.17 billion years, a mass of 1.12 solar masses, a radius of 1.23 solar radii, and a temperature of 6020 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this star.

That planet, Kepler-1581 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1581 b orbits every 6.28 days and has a radius of 0.8 Earth radii, smaller than Earth's. This radius places it in the Sub-Earth size class, which compares radius with Earth's rather than indicating composition.
