Kepler-1527 b: A Distant Giant in Transit

Kepler-1527 is a star located 6010 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is estimated to be 2.82 billion years old, with a mass of 1.21 solar masses, a radius of 1.32 solar radii, and a temperature of 6220 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-1527 b, was discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1527 b orbits its host every 160 days. Its radius is 4.77 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, placing it among the Jupiter-like planets, a class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius.
