Kepler-1493 b: An Earth-Like World Around a Single Star

Kepler-1493 is a single star located 1810 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is estimated to be 6.46 billion years old, with a mass of 1.06 solar masses and a radius of 1.29 solar radii. Its temperature is 5860 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The one planet in this system is Kepler-1493 b, an Earth-like planet discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1493 b completes one orbit in 15 days, and its radius is 1.41 Earth radii. That radius is larger than Earth's. An Earth-like classification stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius and describes size, not composition.
